His life and career were so influential that they reportedly inspired a major Bollywood film. The 2004 movie Ab Tak Chhappan, starring Nana Patekar and directed by Shimit Amin, is said to be loosely based on Nayak’s experiences. The film depicted the gritty world of police encounters in Mumbai.
Nayak’s career saw a late promotion. In May of 2025, he was elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police. He subsequently retired from service on July 31, 2025. His son’s wedding reception served as a major social event following his retirement.
