SHOCKING: Re-release of Kapil Sharma-starrer Kis Kisko

Last-Minute Cancellation of Kapil Sharma Film Re-Release Sends Shockwaves

The planned re-release of the comedy film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 has been abruptly cancelled. The film was scheduled to return to cinemas on Friday, January 9. This sudden decision has disappointed fans who missed its original theatrical run.

Behind the Sudden Decision

According to industry sources, the cancellation came down to a dispute over screen count and show timings. The film’s producer, Venus, and its studio partner, Star Studio18, could not reach an agreement. Star Studio18 had promised a re-release across 500 screens nationwide.

However, the distributor was only able to secure between 200 and 250 screens. A major point of contention was the timing of the shows. Most of the allocated slots were reportedly at odd, non-peak hours. This led to dissatisfaction from the producers.

The final call was made on the evening of Thursday, January 8. With the release just hours away, Venus decided to pull the plug entirely. They believed such a limited and poorly timed release would not serve the film well.

A Second Chance That Never Came

This re-release was intended to give the film a proper second life. Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 first opened in theatres on December 12. It faced immediate and fierce competition from big releases like Dhurandhar and the Hollywood blockbuster Avatar: Fire And Ash.

These dominant films captured the majority of screen space. As a result, the Kapil Sharma comedy was quickly squeezed out of cinemas. The producers felt it was withdrawn prematurely, before reaching its full audience potential.

The plan was to reintroduce the film once the holiday season rush had slowed down. The producers anticipated better screen availability in January. However, even with less competition, the required level of showcasing could not be secured. This forced the drastic last-minute cancellation.

Industry Reaction and Future Prospects

Industry experts express regret over the situation. They note that the film received positive word-of-mouth for its humor. In an era where many comedies struggle, this one reportedly generated genuine laughter in theatres.

The big question now is whether the re-release will be attempted again at a later date. The producers and distributors would need to align on a strong release strategy. This event highlights the ongoing battle for screen space in India’s crowded film market.

For investors and observers, this incident underscores the importance of distribution clout. A film’s success depends not just on content and stars, but on securing prime screening slots. When partnerships between producers and distributors falter, even the best-laid plans can collapse overnight.

The film stars Kapil Sharma alongside a large ensemble cast including Manjot Singh and Jamie Lever. Directed by Anukalp Goswami, it follows the chaotic story of a man who accidentally ends up with three wives while his true love disappears. Its future on the big screen now remains uncertain.
