Mukesh Bhatt clarifies Awarapan 2 date shift not due to

Awarapan 2 Release Pushed to 2026 Due to Emraan Hashmi Injury, Not Box Office Fears

Producer Mukesh Bhatt has officially clarified the new release window for the upcoming sequel Awarapan 2. The film is now expected to arrive in cinemas in May or June of 2026. This announcement directly addresses widespread speculation that the date change was a strategic move to avoid major box office competition.

Clarifying the Cause of the Delay

Recent reports suggested the film’s shift from an earlier April slot was due to a crowded release calendar. Key competitors mentioned were other anticipated sequels like Dhurandhar 2 and the star-studded Toxic. However, Mukesh Bhatt has firmly dismissed these claims. He stated the postponement is solely due to unforeseen production challenges, not market strategy.

“I’m not scared of Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic,” Bhatt told PTI, making his position clear. He emphasized that the decision was practical, not tactical.

The Real Reason: An On-Set Accident

The core reason for the delay is lead actor Emraan Hashmi’s health. Bhatt explained that during filming, Hashmi met with an accident that required surgery. As a result, the actor has been medically advised to avoid performing action sequences for a 45-day period.

“The release date of Awarapan 2 has been shifted because while shooting for the film, Emraan Hashmi met with an accident and he had to go through surgery,” Bhatt said. This recovery timeline has directly impacted the remaining shoot schedule, forcing the production to push its completion.

Remaining Production and Anticipated Return

According to the producer, only one significant shooting schedule remains. This involves approximately 20 days of work in Malaysia. This final block is crucial as it contains the key action sequences that Hashmi cannot currently perform.

The team plans to undertake this remaining shoot once Emraan Hashmi’s mandated rest period concludes and he is fully cleared for strenuous activity. The new 2026 release date provides the necessary time for a complete recovery and a proper finish to production without rushing.

Legacy of the Original and Hopes for the Sequel

The original Awarapan, released in 2007 and directed by Mohit Suri, became a cult classic. It was praised for its intense narrative and a powerful performance by Emraan Hashmi. The film’s enduring popularity has built significant anticipation for the sequel.

Awarapan 2 reunites Hashmi with director Nitin Kakkar and writer Bilal Siddiqui. The cast is also reported to feature Disha Patani and veteran actress Shabana Azmi in prominent roles. Fans are eager to see how the story continues.

By addressing the delay head-on, Mukesh Bhatt aims to manage expectations and assure audiences that the focus remains on delivering a complete and high-quality film, worthy of its predecessor’s legacy.
