Prime Video Unveils “Subedaar,” A High-Stakes Action Drama Starring Anil Kapoor
Prime Video has released the first trailer for its upcoming original film, “Subedaar.” The action-drama features veteran actor Anil Kapoor in a fierce new role. The film is set to premiere globally on the streaming platform on March 5.
A Retired Soldier’s Battle on Home Turf
The trailer introduces Anil Kapoor as Subedaar Arjun Maurya, a retired army officer. He returns to life in India’s rugged heartland, a place now gripped by fear due to illegal sand mining. The story follows his confrontation with a powerful adversary named Prince, played by Aditya Rawal. Beyond the physical conflict, the narrative delves into Arjun’s strained relationship with his daughter, Shyama, portrayed by Radhikka Madan.
The ensemble cast includes well-known actors Mona Singh, Saurabh Shukla, Faisal Malik, and Khushboo Sundar in key roles. The trailer promises a tense face-off, highlighted by a powerful line from Kapoor’s character: “Fauji hai, seene mein goli jhel sakte hai, beizzati nahi.” This translates to “He is a soldier, he can bear a bullet in his chest, but not humiliation.”
An Emotionally Demanding Role for the Star
Anil Kapoor, who also co-produced the film, spoke about the challenging role. He described Subedaar Arjun as a man defined by discipline, sacrifice, and deep personal loss. Kapoor stated that bringing this character to life was one of the most powerful experiences of his career. He praised his collaboration with director Suresh Triveni and producer Vikram Malhotra, noting their commitment to authentic, bold storytelling.
Kapoor emphasized his dual role as actor and producer, saying it allowed him to contribute to the film’s vision holistically. He also credited his co-stars and the crew for their brilliant work. The film will be available in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, reaching audiences in over 240 countries and territories.
The Father-Daughter Dynamic as Emotional Core
Radhikka Madan, who plays Arjun’s daughter Shyama, shared her perspective on the film. She described her character as a young woman dealing with loss and quiet strength while navigating a fractured relationship with her father. Madan highlighted that Shyama’s courage comes from resilience and emotional honesty, not loud actions.
She expressed admiration for working with Anil Kapoor, noting his intensity and discipline elevated their scenes. Madan also praised director Suresh Triveni, calling him one of the best directors she has worked with. She believes the father-daughter relationship forms the strong emotional backbone of this action drama.
A Tribute to Mainstream Cinema with Real Heart
Director Suresh Triveni described “Subedaar” as a tribute to the mainstream cinema he grew up watching. He confirmed that the father-daughter relationship is central to the plot. The film also explores the universal challenge of a retired soldier adjusting to civilian life while holding firmly to his values and code of honor.
With its blend of high-stakes action and deep emotional conflict, “Subedaar” is positioned as a character-driven drama. It is set against the volatile backdrop of socio-political issues in rural India. The film is produced by Vikram Malhotra, Anil Kapoor, and Suresh Triveni under Opening Image Films in association with AKFCN.
“Subedaar” is set for its exclusive global premiere on Prime Video on March 5. The film aims to deliver a raw and intense story, combining the spectacle of action with the power of familial bonds.
