EXCLUSIVE: CBFC clears Border 2 with NO dialogue or action

Border 2 Clears Censors With Minor Edits, Major Runtime Confirmed

The highly anticipated war drama Border 2 has officially received its censor certificate, clearing the final hurdle before its nationwide release on January 23. The certification process, conducted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), has concluded with minimal changes to the film’s core content, setting the stage for one of the year’s first major cinematic events.

A Smooth Censor Journey for Key Elements

In a significant win for the filmmakers, the CBFC has not demanded any cuts to the film’s dialogue or its extensive action sequences. This decision is crucial for a war film, where the intensity of combat and the power of dialogue often drive the narrative and emotional impact. The board’s approval suggests the film’s portrayal of conflict aligns with certification guidelines without needing dilution.

However, the certification was not without its required modifications. The CBFC mandated several specific alterations, primarily concerning factual accuracy and national symbols. The name of the warship featured in the film has been changed to ‘Kavach’. Furthermore, visuals of the Indian flag on warplanes have been removed or replaced in accordance with official guidelines governing the depiction of national emblems in cinema.

Focus on Accuracy and Detail

The producers demonstrated a proactive approach by submitting relevant public domain documents to the CBFC’s Examining Committee. A particular point of scrutiny was the accuracy of a shoulder emblem shown in the film. The production team confirmed its correctness, having verified the detail with both the Indian Army and the family of Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, the real-life war hero portrayed by actor Varun Dhawan.

Additional technical edits included increasing the duration and font size of on-screen information dedicated to the warriors. The CBFC also requested that Sunny Deol’s character be correctly identified as Fateh Singh in the film’s closing credits, ensuring proper attribution.

Certificate and Length Signal Broad Appeal

Following these adjustments, Border 2 was awarded a U/A 13+ certificate. This rating indicates the film is suitable for audiences aged 13 and above with parental guidance, and notably, it did not receive a more restrictive 16+ rating. This suggests the film’s war scenes, while intense, may not be excessively graphic or disturbing, potentially broadening its audience reach.

The censor certificate has also confirmed the film’s substantial length. Border 2 will run for 199.07 minutes, which translates to approximately 3 hours, 19 minutes, and 7 seconds. This epic runtime is in keeping with the scale and legacy of its predecessor, the iconic 1997 film Border.

Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by major studios like T-Series and J P Films, the film features a star-studded cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. With the censor process complete and advance bookings generating significant trade interest, all systems are go for the film’s patriotic arrival in theaters this week.
