Ikkis release postponed: Agastya Nanda starrer will now

Major Bollywood Release “Ikkis” Postponed to Kick Off 2026

The release of the much-awaited war drama Ikkis has been officially delayed. The film, which marks the big-screen debut of Agastya Nanda, grandson of superstar Amitabh Bachchan, will now open in cinemas on January 1, 2026. This strategic move positions it as the very first major Bollywood release of the new year.

A Strategic Shift in Release Date

The film was originally scheduled for a Christmas 2025 release on December 25. The announcement of the new date was made by the production house, Maddock Films, on its social media channels. According to industry sources, the decision was a strategic one made by producer Dinesh Vijan.

The goal is to avoid a crowded holiday box office clash with other major films. This strategy has proven successful for Vijan’s past projects. Films like Hindi Medium and the upcoming Chhaava benefited from having a clear release window with less competition. This move gives Ikkis a better chance to capture audience attention and secure strong theatre bookings.

The Story and Significance of “Ikkis”

Ikkis is not just another debut vehicle. It is a major project directed by the acclaimed Sriram Raghavan. Raghavan is famous for crafting sharp, clever thrillers like Andhadhun and Badlapur. This film marks his first directorial venture into the war genre.

The film is based on a powerful true story from the 1971 Indo-Pak War. It chronicles the heroic actions of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal. Khetarpal was only 21 years old when he displayed extraordinary bravery in battle. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honor for valor. The title Ikkis translates to “twenty-one” in Hindi, referencing his age.

A Stellar Cast and Emotional Farewell

The film stars Agastya Nanda in the pivotal role of Arun Khetarpal. Nanda, who made his streaming debut in The Archies, will be closely watched in his first theatrical lead. He is supported by a strong ensemble cast including noted actors Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikander Kher.

Adding a layer of deep emotion to the release, Ikkis will also feature the legendary actor Dharmendra. This will be one of his final film appearances, making it a posthumous release and a cinematic tribute to the veteran star.

Building Anticipation for 2026

The producers are already building excitement for the new release date. Maddock Films announced that the final trailer for Ikkis will be released in theatres this coming weekend. The social media post described the film as “a new chapter” and urged audiences to “experience courage in cinemas.”

With its blend of patriotic storytelling, a respected director exploring a new genre, and the debut of a star legacy, Ikkis is positioned as a major cinematic event. Its move to January 1, 2026, aims to give this story of sacrifice and valor the standalone spotlight its producers believe it deserves. The industry and audiences will now wait to see if this strategic delay pays off at the box office.
